Concrete-to-Paver Conversion

Stop patching concrete. Convert it once, and be done.

Poured concrete cracks as the ground shifts, and once it cracks there is no clean fix, only a patch that shows and a problem that comes back. A concrete-to-paver conversion ends that cycle. Genesis removes the failing concrete, corrects the base and drainage underneath, and installs pavers that move with the ground instead of fighting it. You get hundreds of colors and patterns, a surface any single stone of which can be lifted and reset, and the largest resale return of any hardscape upgrade. Concrete-to-paver conversion is the most requested project we do, on driveways, patios, and pool decks alike.

Why Convert

Why replace concrete with pavers instead of pouring more concrete

Pouring a fresh slab just restarts the clock. The new concrete will crack again in the same Southern California soil, it will stain and fade, and when a utility line needs attention someone breaks it out and re-pours. Pavers solve the actual problem. They flex without cracking, they lift and reset cleanly for repairs or access, and a damaged stone is swapped in minutes rather than jackhammered out. A concrete-to-paver conversion is not a patch, it is the last surface you will need to install.

Repour vs Convert

Your two real options when concrete fails

When a concrete surface is cracking or dated, the choice is not repair versus nothing. It is pouring another slab that will crack again, or converting to pavers once.

The concrete-to-paver conversion process in three steps

1

Assess & Design

The owner visits, inspects the existing slab, base, and drainage, and helps you choose materials, colors, and patterns, then hands you an honest, itemized quote.

2

Remove & Rebuild

We demolish and haul away the old concrete, then correct and compact the base and drainage so the new surface is built on solid ground.

3

Install & Finish

One crew lays your pavers, sets the edges, and finishes the surface on a set schedule, and we stand behind the workmanship.

Where We Convert

One crew converts every concrete surface on your property

The same conversion, done for the surfaces homeowners ask about most. Explore each below.

Real crews, real capability

Since 1993 and 15,000+ projects, with the same team on your conversion

Genesis is not a call center that dispatches subcontractors. The people who quote your conversion are the people who demolish the old slab and build the new surface, and they are named throughout our reviews. Genesis holds eight California contractor’s licenses, so one team legally handles the demolition, the base, the drainage, and the pavers.

Questions

Concrete-to-paver conversion FAQ

Straight answers about converting concrete to pavers, cost, and how Genesis works, from the owner-led team that actually does the job.

Can you install pavers over my existing concrete?
In most cases we remove the old concrete and build a proper compacted base rather than laying pavers on top, because overlaying traps the existing cracks, height, and drainage problems underneath. We assess your slab in person and recommend the right approach for a result that lasts.
Why convert to pavers instead of pouring new concrete?
New concrete cracks again as the ground moves and the sun works on it, and it cannot be repaired cleanly. Interlocking pavers flex without cracking, individual stones can be lifted and reset to reach a buried line or fix settling, and they offer hundreds of colors and patterns with a far better return at resale.
How much does concrete-to-paver conversion cost?
Every conversion is quoted flat-rate after an in-person visit, because the price depends on removing and hauling away the old concrete, square footage, base preparation, drainage, and the pavers you choose. Installed, the finished surface costs about the same as stamped concrete and lasts far longer. Your Genesis design consultant provides a free, itemized quote with no obligation.
What happens to my old concrete?
Genesis demolishes the old slab and hauls it away, then rebuilds a properly compacted base before installing the pavers. One crew handles the demolition, the base, the drainage, and the finish, so you are never coordinating separate contractors.
How long does a conversion take?
Most residential conversions are completed within a few days to about a week, depending on the size of the area, how much concrete has to be removed, drainage, and base work. Genesis works on a set schedule with one crew, so the timeline stays predictable.
Which surfaces can you convert from concrete to pavers?
Driveways, patios, pool decks, walkways, and pool surrounds. See our driveway, patio, and pool deck pages for each surface, or ask about your project at your consultation.
