4. What Are Paving Stones Made Of?
Interlocking paving stones are made of highly compressed, intensely vibrated, slightly damp concrete with color mixed in. They are 60 mm or roughly 2 ½ inches thick and come in a wide variety of shapes.
5. Can You Drive Heavy Vehicles Over Pavers?
Yes! A well compacted and intelligently designed driveway can withstand incredible traffic and heavy loads. Like a sturdy house, a sturdy driveway begins at the foundation. Simply inform us at the beginning of the job of highly trafficked areas or weight concerns, and Genesis will take care of the rest!
6. Why Are Paving Stones Better Than Anything Else?
Interlocking pavers are so durable because they have excellent load dispersion capability as well as load bearing capacity. They are rated for 8000 pounds per square inch or more! Many paving stones reach 11 to 12 thousand pound compressive strength per SQUARE INCH, WOW! They flex and move with earthquakes and rarely crack and break. Utility lines can be accessed as well. Simply unlock the paving stones, repair the utility lines, and call us. We will gladly lock it back together for you at a very reasonable cost.
7. Can Paving Stones Be Put On Top Of Existing Cement?
Sometimes we can overlay a patio but there must be at least 3 ½ inches of clearance from the top of the cement to the threshold of the door.
Driveways and pool decks cannot be overlayed because there would be a 3 inch bump up from the street and a 3 inch bump down into the garage.
8. How are interlocking concrete paving stones installed?
1) Excavate 7 ½” from final grade
2) Install 4″ of class 2 base then compact it.
3) Screed 1″ of sand
4) Lay the paving stones and cut in the borders
5) Set the borders in concrete where needed6) Compact the area, sweep joint sand in and compact again.
7) Clean up while fine tuning the installation.
