The property
This 2016 project sits on an open hillside lot in Agoura Hills, on the Los Angeles County side of the Conejo Valley. The house is a single storey ranch with a deep covered patio running most of its length, and the ground falls away behind it toward open space.
What Genesis built
The finished work is a continuous large format paver surface that wraps the back and side of the house, tying the covered patio, the open terrace and the walkways into one level plane. An artificial turf lawn is set flush into the paving rather than fenced off from it, so the lawn reads as part of the terrace instead of a separate yard. Seating walls and steps handle the grade change across the lot, and a decomposed granite path carries around the side of the house.
