Moorpark is a valley-and-hills city with documented expansive soils and a higher wildfire designation than many people expect. Those conditions are exactly what we build around, in our own backyard.
Documented expansive soils and hillside slope
Moorpark sits in the Arroyo Simi valley surrounded by mesas and hills, and the geology genuinely mixes valley alluvium with clay-bearing layers and hillside formations, with expansive soils and older landslide areas documented in the surrounding hills. Expansive soil swells and shrinks with the seasons and cracks rigid poured concrete. Interlocking pavers sit on a compacted, engineered base and flex with the ground, so the surface stays intact, and any settling is corrected by lifting and resetting pavers. On soil like this, the base preparation is the whole job. A soils report governs any specific lot.
Hillside neighborhoods: grading, drainage, and walls
Moorpark Highlands, Butter Creek, and Pinnacle Estates are hillside neighborhoods where holding the grade and moving water are the real work. That means retaining and seating walls engineered for the load, drainage built into the hardscape, and terraces and steps that make a slope usable and safe. More fire country than people expect
It surprises people, but much of Moorpark falls within Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones, and the state’s updated maps expanded that further. Moorpark is our home city, a Ventura County suburb in the Arroyo Simi valley named for the Moorpark apricot that still appears on the city seal. Incorporated in 1983 and largely master-planned since, it ranges from established family neighborhoods and the historic High Street core to gated hillside estates, and it is repeatedly ranked among California’s safest cities.
Building here is personal for us. The valley alluvium and clay-bearing hillside soils, the grade changes, and a higher wildfire designation than most expect are conditions we know intimately because they are in our own backyard. Genesis builds for the way Moorpark yards actually sit on the land, because this is where we live and work.
